The High Frequency Focused Ultrasound (HIFU) as curative treatment of localized prostate cancer.

The High Frequency Focused Ultrasound (HIFU) as curative treatment of localized prostate cancer.

The High Frequency Focused Ultrasound (HIFU), still called Ablatherm, uses a thermal effect delivered by an ultrasound source to destroy the prostate cancer. This technique is especially reserved for subjects considered too old for surgery but generally with a good bill of health. Or rather simple monitoring or hormonotherapy does not appear to constitute sufficient therapeutic options for their prostate cancer.

Here still, the volume of the prostatic gland to be treated is not too important, or must often be reduced before HIFU by a surgical procedure, usually an endoscopic trans-urethral prostate resection TURP) following out the gland by the natural canal.

The way to deliver the treatment, advantages, efficiency and complications or risks of the High Frequency Focused Ultrasound (HIFU) is explained on the ” CEDIT ” booklet.
